The Biosphere 2 project was created as a research tool for scientists to study Earth’s living systems, and it allowed scientists to play with farming and innovation in a way that didn’t harm the planet. One of the most profound discoveries made by the scientists had nothing to do with a cure for some new disease or a new way of farming land. Rather, the discovery had to do with the wind’s role in a tree’s life. The trees inside Biosphere 2 grew rapidly, more rapidly than they did outside of the dome, but they also fell over before reaching maturation.
After looking at the root systems and outer layers of bark, the scientists came to realize that a lack of wind in Biosphere 2 caused a deficiency of stress wood. Stress wood helps a tree position itself for optimal sun absorption and it also helps trees grow more solidly. Without stress wood, a tree can grow quickly, but it cannot support itself fully. It cannot withstand normal wear and tear, and survive. In other words, the trees needed some stress in order to thrive in the long run.
renegadelunarsky asked: A woman roamed the quiet forest, waving her hand and sending her gift to villages she would see in the distance. Eventually, she heard voices in some bushes. “I’m not leaving! This was too soon!” She looked through the bushes to see a man and a very transparent woman. Although, she looked very familiar...Of course! She walked through the bushes yelling, “Unhand that soul this instant!”
It was a day like any other and Sylvester was just about to take a soul to the afterlife as someone interrupted.
Sylvester turned to look at the stranger with an annoyed look on his face, the soul had already been defiant and endlessly irritating and now this random person wanted to make things even more complicated, fantastic. “Sorry, no can do. I have my orders and I’m not about to defy them just because of you.”
It was another day and Sylvester had another soul to bring to the afterlife. He went to the location and as soon as he saw Selis near the soul he groaned, oh no, not this again… he really hoped that she wouldn’t try to get in the way again because he couldn’t go against the rules a second time.
He walked up to the soul before slowly acknowledging Selis’ presence. “Hello, Selis. I hope this was not another accident?” the look on her face really said it all, but he still hoped she wouldn’t get in the way like last time.

Sylvester went completely rigid as the strange woman hugged him. People never thanked him, in fact, most people cursed his very existence. The only people that ever hugged him were the demon that he had befriended and the other angel of death that he had taken under his wing, so it felt extremely odd to get hugged by a stranger.
She quickly pulled away from him once he did, and bowed. “My apologies. I’m just, elated about the fact that she gets a second chance. Especially seeing as how it was my fault.” A soft sigh escaped her lips, “Well, I must return to my realm, and hope that no one of higher importance isn’t there to scold me. Thank you, again…You know, I never did get your name.”
“It’s fine” he spoke calmly, adjusting his coat after the hug. “That’s because I never mentioned my name. You didn’t mention yours either.” He looked at her “It doesn’t really matter what my name is. It’s irrelevant to the situation.” He looked at the dead body “I should probably put that back together so she can actually get back to… well, living, I suppose.”
He began to heal the body, putting bones back in the right position, healing the organs and returning them to the proper place in the body. “It’s Sylvester. My name, I mean.”
Hmm. Charming. “Oh? That’s a nice name. Well, mine is Selis.” She smiled.
She then walked off and waved. “It was nice meeting you Sylvester! So sorry for the misunderstanding!” She lept into the bushes, the trail that was following behind her disappearing soon after.
He fixed the body, for a creature that was technically only meant to help the dead find peace he was surprisingly good at actually putting a body back together. He helped the soul back into the body before leaving as well, he didn’t get into any trouble for what he had done and he was glad that was the case, he was still a bit confused by what had happened though.
